Will a person be considered among the losers on the Day of Judgment if he prays most of his prayers without humility and with thoughts of worldly matters, which may diminish the reward prescribed for him from his prayer?

The majority of scholars hold that one who abandons prayer out of laziness does not commit an act of disbelief that expels him from the religion, contrary to the view of Ahmad and a group of Hadith (definition) scholars. As for khushūʿ (devotion/humility) in prayer, most scholars consider it a sunnah (definition) (recommended act), while some deem it obligatory. However, the relied-upon view among meticulous scholars is that prayer is not invalidated by its absence. Authentic texts indicate that the mind being preoccupied with worldly matters does not invalidate the prayer. Khushūʿ is the greatest secret of prayer, and the reward is commensurate with its perfection. If one is overcome by worldly thoughts during prayer, their prayer is still valid and sufficient, but they may incur sin if they indulge in these thoughts without resisting them, and they will miss out on a great reward. One must strive to attain khushūʿ and repel intrusive thoughts, and compensate for any shortcomings by performing abundant supererogatory prayers, repenting, seeking forgiveness, and supplicating. Whoever strives to seek khushūʿ, Allah will guide them.
