What should I do about my father who forces me to watch television despite my vow to refrain from it, and can I fulfill my vow after my father hit me because of it?
A Muslim must obey Allah and avoid His disobedience. It is not permissible to obey a father or anyone else in matters that displease Allah. One must strive to guide the father, convince him to abandon the forbidden, and seek help from those who influence him. If it is possible to open useful channels that do not contain forbidden content, such as Al Majd channel, then there is no objection to obeying the father. However, regarding watching or listening to forbidden content, it is not permissible to obey him in that. One must seek help from Allah the Almighty to ward off evil, and maintain regular remembrance (dhikr), perform the Fajr prayer, and be patient.
