Should a 27-year-old man be informed of the truth that the woman he lives with is not his mother, and that the man who passed away was not his father, especially given a previous fatwa necessitating disclosure, and the dilemma between incurring sin and the shock to the young man?

Allah has legislated the fostering of orphans and foundlings, promising a great reward for it. He has also forbidden adoption, which was practiced during the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah). Allah Almighty says: "And He has not made your adopted sons your [true] sons. That is [merely] your saying by your mouths, but Allah speaks the truth, and He guides to the [right] way. Call them by [the names of] their fathers; that is more just in the sight of Allah. But if you do not know their fathers, then they are your brothers in religion and your protectors." Therefore, the man must be gently informed of the truth of his situation, without causing him shock, and it should be explained that this is the law of Allah.
