The ' (sacrificial offering for a newborn) is recommended for a fetus that has miscarried if the soul has been breathed into it, and it is one of the means by which parents can attain the intercession of their children. Giving charity with the monetary value of the 'aqiqah does not suffice in place of slaughtering the animal. It is permissible to authorize charitable organizations to slaughter and distribute it.
