Delay by a rich person is oppression. Delay (al-matl) is the deferral of paying what is due without a valid excuse. If a person capable of paying is a defaulter, then it is obligatory to advise them and warn them of the consequences of death and the burden of people's rights. It is permissible for the creditor to inform on them to alleviate the injustice, provided that the creditor knows of the debtor's ability to pay. Otherwise, it is not permissible to inform on them if their inability is known, out of fear of them being imprisoned, based on the Almighty's saying: "And do not cooperate in sin and aggression." It is obligatory to grant respite to one in hardship or to waive the debt for them, based on the Almighty's saying: "And if there is one in hardship, then grant him respite until a time of ease. And that you give in charity is better for you, if you only knew."
