What are the rulings for prayer during travel and residency for a person who has two distant residences, one permanent and the other temporary?
It is permissible to shorten the four-rak'ah prayers and combine the common prayers (Dhuhr and Asr, and Maghrib and Isha) either by advancing them (jam' taqdim) or delaying them (jam' ta'khir) during travel, and to avail the concession of not fasting in . Travel ceases and full prayer becomes obligatory upon reaching one's homeland, or if one has a resident wife there, or intends to reside for four full days or more. However, if the intention of residence is for two days or less than four days, and it is not one's homeland, or if one is hesitant, it is permissible to avail the concessions of travel, such as shortening and combining prayers, even if the duration of stay exceeds four days, as long as there is no firm intention to reside.
