Is it permissible to supplicate for a child using supplications from outside the Sunni school of thought?
A Muslim must turn to Allah when seeking their needs, for He is the Giver and the Withholder, and to Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. Allah Almighty recounted Zakariyya's (peace be upon him) supplication to Allah for offspring, and He answered him. Therefore, one should be persistent in supplication, seek out times when prayers are answered, and increase in seeking forgiveness, in fulfillment of His (the Almighty's) saying: "And said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever Forgiving. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [copious] showers And give you increase in wealth and sons and make for you gardens and make for you rivers.'" As for specifying a particular supplication or determining a specific number for glorification (tasbih) and seeking forgiveness (istighfar) for the purpose of having children without proof, that is an innovation (bid'ah). Supplication and seeking forgiveness are among the greatest means of having a child, and one must avoid the websites of the people of innovation.
