For a woman to uncover her hair and remove her hijab in front of non-mahram men is considered tabarruj (displaying oneself immodestly) and a major sin for which there is no prescribed punishment or expiation other than sincere repentance to Allah Almighty for what has passed, and adherence to the Islamic dress code. Repentance has conditions, including sincerity to Allah, abandoning the sin, resolving not to return to it, and regretting what has transpired. If these conditions are met, Allah Almighty has promised to accept repentance, erase sins, and transform them into good deeds, as He says: "Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'" (Quran 39:53) And His saying: "And it is He who accepts repentance from His servants and pardons misdeeds, and He knows what you do." (Quran 42:25) And His saying: "Except for those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds - for them Allah will change their evil deeds into good ones. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful." (Quran 25:70)
