If the commodity is absent but owned by the seller, it is permissible to receive part of the price upon contract and the remainder upon delivery. However, if the commodity is described in a liability (salam sale), then, according to the majority of jurists, it is not permissible to delay the receipt of the price. The Malikis, on the other hand, permit a slight delay (up to three days) provided that it does not reach the term of the salam contract itself. The preponderant opinion is that of the majority, which prohibits delaying the price in a salam sale.
