Will the past jihad of a person who used to fight but not pray, then committed to prayer, be counted?
The matter of prayer is grave, and abandoning it is perilous. Some scholars have gone so far as to consider one who abandons it to be an infidel, citing the Prophet's (peace be upon him) hadith: "Between a man and disbelief is the abandonment of prayer," and "The covenant between us and them is prayer; whoever abandons it has disbelieved." As for one who repents with sincere repentance, fulfilling all its conditions, Allah accepts his repentance and transforms his evil deeds into good deeds, as stated in His Glorious saying: "Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous deeds. For them Allah will change their evil deeds into good ones."
