According to the soundest opinions of the people of knowledge, a man's lowering his garments below the ankles is absolutely forbidden. However, whoever permits it when not done out of pride is not considered to have departed from Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama’ah, because the view of the majority is the permissibility of lowering the garment when not done out of pride. This issue is one of the matters of scholarly disagreement and not among the fundamental principles concerning which a dissenter would be considered outside Ahl al-Sunnah.
