If the husband falls short in providing the basic necessities for the marital home (such as beds, a refrigerator, and a cooking appliance), this falls under the obligatory maintenance due from him, and he is not permitted to be remiss in it. However, if the husband fulfills his obligatory maintenance towards his wife and children, he is permitted to give charity from his surplus wealth, and the wife has no right to object. Rather, it is recommended that she encourage him to do so, because giving charity from wealth that is surplus to one's needs and the sufficiency of those he supports is commendable.
