Is the ignorant person excused for his ignorance of the rulings of Islamic law, or are there cases in which he is not excused, and does this apply to the worldly scholar who is ignorant of the Sharia rulings under the pretext of his preoccupation?

We have previously explained the criteria for excusable ignorance and the situations in which a person is excused or not excused. There is no difference between a knowledgeable person and an ignorant person in worldly sciences regarding matters for which one is excused or not excused. Preoccupation with experimental scientific research is not an excuse for neglecting to learn the obligatory knowledge, such as prayer, fasting, zakat, and Islamic creed.
