What is the ruling regarding a wife remaining with her husband who only prays out of hypocrisy, mistreats her with beating and theft, refuses to financially support her and their children, bargains with her to abort her pregnancy in exchange for divorce, and threatens to harm her family and take their children if she requests a divorce?

A young man must fear Allah, preserve his prayers, spend on his wife and children, and provide them with housing. If he does not have money or is prevented from doing so, his wife may choose to be patient or refer the matter to the Sharia courts. It is not permissible for him to curse, insult, or beat his wife without a legitimate Sharia reason, nor to threaten her family with death. Nor is it permissible for him to ask her to have an abortion. We advise the wife that seeking divorce without a proven harm is forbidden, and she has the right to custody of the children in case of divorce, unless she marries another man.
