Water entering the mouth or nose during ablution (wudu') or ritual bathing (ghusl) does not invalidate the fast, unless the fasting person deliberately swallows it. However, if it reaches the throat unintentionally, it does not affect the validity of the fast.

Regarding making up for missed Ramadan fasts (qada'), if the make-up is delayed due to an excuse (such as forgetfulness) until the next Ramadan begins, then no expiation (fidyah) is required. However, if the delay was intentional, then expiation is obligatory. It is permissible to pay the expiation before making up the fast, or simultaneously with it, or after it. The amount of expiation is approximately 750 grams of the staple food of the local community.
