A husband committing sins such as illicit relationships, watching pornography, masturbation, and smoking are heinous abominations. The greatest of these is abandoning prayer, which is among the greatest major sins; some scholars have even deemed the one who abandons it to be an apostate. Anal sex is forbidden, and it is not permissible for the wife to agree to it. The wife must advise her husband and help him to repent and become righteous. If he repents, then praise be to Allah. But if he persists in his state, then it is preferable to separate from him through divorce or khul'.
