What is the ruling in the event of a dispute between the buyer and the seller regarding the payment for an item, where each claims to be truthful, and has anything similar to this problem been reported in the Prophet's Sunnah or the biographies of the Companions?

This problem did not arise during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Rather, there is a story indicating the scrupulousness of buyers and sellers and their pushing away money, each believing it was not theirs. In such a situation, the word of the seller is accepted, along with his oath, because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Were people to be given according to their claims, men would claim the wealth and blood of others. But the burden of proof is upon the claimant, and the oath is upon the one who denies." And due to the general statement of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "If the two parties to a sale differ, then the statement of the seller is accepted, or they should mutually rescind the transaction."
