Verily, when Allah forbids a thing, He also forbids its price." Al-Albani graded it as authentic, and its origin is in the Two Sahihs from Jabir. It would have been better not to sell the disk, but rather to record religious or scientific materials on it. Since he sold it and bought Islamic books with its price, he should make them for the general benefit of Muslims, and he may benefit from them like others. Unlawful wealth should not be used for personal gain; rather, it should be spent on charitable causes and public welfare. There is no expiation for him except seeking forgiveness.
