Is it permissible to seek divorce from a husband who refuses treatment for infertility, is negligent in her material and emotional rights, is not assiduous in prayer, and the wife fears for her religious commitment and her Hereafter because of him, especially since she used to pray to Allah for a husband of good character and religious devotion?

The husband is religiously obligated to treat his wife kindly and to provide for her. Procreation is an important objective of marriage, and the husband should not refuse treatment if it is possible. He should be advised wisely regarding this, accompanied by abundant supplication. As for the husband's negligence in prayer, this is more serious, and he should be advised and reminded of Allah. A woman has the right to seek divorce if she is harmed, but she should not rush into it except after exhausting means of reconciliation and ensuring that it is the best course of action. A Muslim woman must not object to Allah's decree, for Allah is Wise and Just and answers prayers under their conditions. Marriage may be a trial, and she must be patient, have good expectations of Allah, and not cease supplicating.
