Thus, if he forbids her from going out or driving a car, obedience to him becomes obligatory. It is best for both spouses to reach an understanding and live together in kindness. It is permissible for a woman to learn how to drive a car while adhering to Islamic guidelines, such as dressing modestly and avoiding mixing with non-mahram (definition) men. It should be noted that a woman being alone with a man in a car is considered unlawful seclusion (khalwa (definition)), except in cases of necessity.
