If the owner is unable to feed an animal he owns, he must either sell it or gift it to someone who can feed it. It is forbidden to leave it to perish from hunger or predation, because wasting wealth is unlawful. The animal's upkeep is obligatory, and the owner is compelled to provide it. If he is unable to spend on it and refuses to sell it, it will be sold on his behalf. If an animal becomes disabled and cannot be utilized, then if it is an edible animal, the owner is given the choice between slaughtering it or continuing to spend on it. If it is not an edible animal, he is compelled to spend on it. And if he finds no means to spend on it, he slaughters it to relieve it from suffering.
