Familial problems between parents negatively affect children. The father has the right to dutifulness (birr) and not to be disobeyed ('uquq), and his obedience is obligatory upon the wife unless he commands a sin or an injustice. The mother's conduct of seeking revenge on the husband only worsens the matter. The marital relationship should be based on affection (mawaddah) and mercy (rahmah). You must not prevent your father from entering any part of his house, or ignore him, or prevent him from eating from what is in his house, as this is an act of disobedience ('uquq). Explain gently to your mother that you cannot stand against your father, and refuse to be drawn into these conflicts.
