ما هو معنى آية: "العين بالعين والسن بالسن والجروح قصاص"؟

The noble verse: "And We ordained for them therein: a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, an ear for an ear, a tooth for a tooth, and for wounds is legal retribution. But whoever pardons it, it will be an expiation for him. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed – then it is those who are the wrongdoers" was revealed as a reprimand to the Jews who concealed the rulings of the Torah, and it established the ruling of Qisas (legal retribution) which conformed to Islamic Sharia. The meaning of the verse is that a life is taken for a life, limbs are amputated for limbs, and retribution is taken for wounds. Scholars have agreed on the obligation of Qisas for wounds if they are in a joint, and they differed regarding bones due to the difficulty of achieving exact equivalence. His saying: "But whoever pardons it, it will be an expiation for him" means that whoever forgives his right to Qisas, his forgiveness will be an expiation for his sins and a reward from Allah. And His saying: "And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed – then it is those who are the wrongdoers" means that whoever does not judge with Qisas has committed wrongdoing, because he has not done justice to the wronged party.
