ما هو الأمر الذي أنكره ابن مسعود رضي الله عنه على المتحلقين للذكر، وهل أنكر عليهم التحلق نفسه أم التسبيح بالحصى؟

Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, denounced the newly invented form of collective dhikr, where people would gather in circles in the mosque, raising their voices with tasbih and tahlil, making this gathering a recurring habit. This is because such a description was not brought by the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace be upon him. Al-Shatibi states that when a description dominates an act, it brings it closer to corruption, and that an act exceeding what is legislated becomes a description of it, whether by intention, habit, or Shari'ah. He mentioned examples of Ibn Mas'ud's disapproval when he objected to those who directed people to recite dhikr in specific numbers with a collective voice, and when he denounced tasbih with pebbles, considering it an innovation and an Bid'ah. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah says that gathering for dhikr and reciting the Qur'an occasionally is good, but adopting a regular, recurring gathering, other than the legislated gatherings, is considered an innovation that parallels legislated acts of worship. This denouncement does not include tasbih with a rosary (misbahah), as the misbahah is permissible, as narrated regarding Juwayriyah, may Allah be pleased with her, performing tasbih with date pits.
