What is the ruling on one who abandons his father's land and does not work in agriculture?
Working in agriculture is among the best professions and purest earnings, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "No Muslim plants a plant or cultivates a crop, and a bird, human, or animal eats from it, but it will be a charity for him." Scholars have differed on which professions are best, and most prophetic traditions indicate the superiority of earning by hand (agriculture and industry), as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A man's work with his own hand, and every righteous transaction." Therefore, there is no religious impediment for a son to leave his father's land and work in another permissible field such as industry or trade.
