Does the marriage contract become affected by misunderstandings that arose between the spouses and the husband's suspicion of his wife, and does the contract need to be renewed?
If a man divorces his wife and she completes her iddah (waiting period), his return to her is unlawful. However, he may marry her again with a new contract and dowry if it was the first or second divorce. If it was the third divorce, she is not lawful for him until she marries another husband.
However, if the separation was merely a parting without a divorce, the woman remains his wife. The husband seeing his wife with a non-mahram man does not affect the marital relationship, but he must forbid her from this unlawful act, because he is responsible for her, as Allah Almighty says: "O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are [appointed] angels, harsh and severe; they do not disobey Allah in what He commands them but do what they are commanded." [At-Tahrim:6].
