Do medicated eye drops invalidate fasting?

Scholars differed on whether eyedrops invalidate the fast, holding two views: The Malikis and Hanbalis believe they invalidate the fast if they reach the throat, while the Hanafis and a group of scholars, including Ibn Taymiyyah, believe they do not invalidate it. The preponderant view is that they do not invalidate the fast, though it is preferable to delay using them until night. If a patient needs them and tastes their flavor in their throat, they should spit it out.
