What is the Islamic ruling on applying eye drops during the daytime in Ramadan?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Scholars differ on whether eye drops invalidate the fast, holding two views:

1. The Malikis and Hanbalis are of the opinion that they invalidate the fast if they reach the throat.

2. The Hanafis and a group of scholars are of the opinion that they do not invalidate the fast, and this is the more preponderant view. However, it is preferable to delay using them until night. If one needs them during the day, there is no harm, but they should spit out and expel whatever reaches their throat.
