Is it permissible to consume a dietary supplement containing an amino acid extracted from duck feathers?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The feathers of birds whose meat is permissible to eat, such as ducks, are pure (tahir), whether they are attached to the bird or separated from it, and whether the bird is alive or dead. This is the view of the majority of scholars. Their evidence is that feathers are similar to hair in their rulings and are analogized to them. This is also supported by the verse: {And from their wool, and their fur, and their hair, furniture and enjoyment for a time.} Therefore, there is no religious impediment to using dietary supplements extracted from duck feathers.
