What is the virtue of forgiveness for a mistake, and does it deprive one of good deeds on the Day of Judgment?

"Whoever forgives the shortcomings of his brethren, Allah promises to forgive him and show him kindness, based on the Quranic verses that encourage forgiveness and overlooking, such as His saying, the Most High: 'And let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allah should forgive you?' and 'So whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is due from Allah.' Likewise, the noble Hadith 'Allah does not increase a servant by forgiveness except in honor' emphasizes the virtue of forgiveness, and that whoever forgives will not take from the good deeds of the offender on the Day of Resurrection, but rather will receive a great reward from Allah."
