Which is more greatly rewarded: pardoning and overlooking one who backbit and slandered me, or gaining their good deeds as a result of their backbiting and slander against me?

Overlooking the mistakes of others and forgiving people are among the noble virtues that a Muslim should embody. Allah has promised a great reward and abundant recompense for forgiveness. However, forgiveness does not mean condoning transgression against one's honor or waiving future rights. "So whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is due from Allah." It is permissible to retain one's right and not forgive it, in which case its equivalent will be taken from the oppressor's good deeds on the Day of Judgment. However, the reward for forgiveness is greater.
