Is it permissible to implant artificial hair that is identical in shape and color to the original hair, knowing that all the hair has fallen out due to alopecia areata, which cannot be treated with painful topical cortisone injections that have only a temporary effect, and natural hair cannot be transplanted?

Hair transplantation is permissible for those whose hair has fallen out due to illness or an accident, because this falls under removing a defect and restoring things to their original state. Fatwas classify this as not being an alteration of Allah's creation. As for artificial hair transplantation, it is permissible under certain conditions, including that it must be made of a pure material, and that it should not cause harm greater than the existing harm. Although some researchers have prohibited it, likening it to the forbidden hair extension (wisal), the preponderant opinion views its permissibility for removing a defect, not for enhancing beauty.
