Is one who denies the narration that the Prophet (peace be upon him) branded the eyes of the 'Uraniyyin with heated iron, because he felt discomfort from it, an infidel? And can the reason for the Prophet's action with the 'Uraniyyin be known, and who were they?

The 'Uraniyyun were people from the 'Uraynah tribe who came to Medina and embraced Islam. Then they were afflicted with dropsy, so the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered them to drink the urine and milk of camels, and they were cured. After that, they apostatized from Islam, killed the Prophet's shepherd, gouged out his eyes, and drove away the camels. So the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, sent (men) after them and had their hands and feet cut off and their eyes gouged out, as retribution for their heinous crimes which combined apostasy, murder, highway robbery (hirabah), and theft. What the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did was the essence of justice, and a response to a grave crime. Had he dealt with them leniently, others would have dared to commit similar acts. Whoever denies this story by way of interpretation does not disbelieve (commit kufr), but whoever denies the Prophetic Sunnah as a source of legislation disbelieves (commits kufr). What is obligatory is to believe and submit to what is authentically reported from Allah and His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, from the revelation, and not to reject the established Sunnah or subject it to whims and unsound intellects.
