What are the Sharia rulings consequent upon sponsoring two orphaned infants, such that the wife's sister breastfeeds them and the wife becomes their maternal aunt through fosterage? And is it permissible to hit them to teach them manners, taking into consideration their societal status due to not bearing the sponsor's name?

An orphan is to be raised like one's own children, and it is permissible to discipline them for educational purposes. However, it is not permissible to adopt them by attributing them to other than their father. Rather, they should be attributed to their known father. If their father is not known, then they are a brother in faith, and society must not burden them with a sin they did not commit.
