What is the ruling on the statement that lack of success in studies or marriage is an indication of Allah's lack of success for the person?

It is permissible to judge that a person was unsuccessful in a particular study or marriage, and this is a statement of fact. However, if the person dislikes hearing this, they should not be hurt by it. If it is said in their absence, it might be considered backbiting. As for judging someone as generally unsuccessful, this is a mistake, for failure in one aspect does not mean failure in all aspects of life. A person might fail in a worldly matter but succeed in others or in obedience to Allah. Allah the Almighty has refuted this notion in His saying: "As for man, when his Lord tries him and honors him and bestows blessings upon him, he says, 'My Lord has honored me.' But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, 'My Lord has humiliated me.' No!" Failure in study or marriage might be due to sins, and it could be considered a lack of success and a trial due to sin.
