The answer

It is not permissible for a Muslim man or woman to abandon what Allah has made obligatory upon them because someone else has abandoned it. For everyone will come to Allah on the Day of Resurrection as an individual. The hijab, which covers the head, chest, forearms, and shins, is obligatory by the Book of Allah, the Sunnah of His Messenger, and the consensus of the Ummah. Whoever denies its obligation has disbelieved, and whoever acknowledges it then abandons it is disobedient and must repent. As for covering the face and hands, there is a difference of opinion, and the preponderant view is the obligation to cover them.
