The answer

If the prize is paid by someone who is not participating in the competition, then this does not fall under prohibited gambling ( Maysir). However, if the participants themselves pay it, then it is considered prohibited gambling, based on the Almighty's saying: (O YOU who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing to] stone altars [and] divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful). Likewise, if there are multiple teams and some pay while others do not, it is unlawful due to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: "There is no prize (sabaq) except in archery, or racing camels, or racing horses," which are competitions related to jihad in the path of Allah.
