Am I obligated to travel with a fiancé whose statements are sometimes contradictory, and who appears inconsistent in his jealousy, especially since I fear that this will affect my attendance at knowledge circles?

The most important things to consider in a suitor are his religiosity and character, due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "If someone whose religiosity and character you are pleased with proposes to you, then marry [your daughter] to him." This can be ascertained by asking trustworthy individuals who have associated with him. If he is pleasing in his religiosity and character, then performing istikharah (prayer for guidance) is advised. However, traveling with him before marriage is impermissible, as the engagement does not remove the status of a stranger between them. After marriage, however, it is permissible for the husband to reside with his wife wherever he wishes, as long as there is no legal impediment.
