What is the ruling concerning money that I do not know whether it was put in the charity box or lost by me?
If the profits are from forbidden usurious transactions, they must be disposed of by spending them on the welfare of Muslims. If they are separated from the capital and earmarked for expenditure in their legitimate channels, then the hand of the disposer over them is a hand of trust (amanah), and he is not liable for their loss unless he was negligent in safeguarding them.
