What should I do now, knowing that at the age of 12 I swore to do something that angers God but did not do it, and I fasted three days as expiation, but recently learned that the original expiation is feeding ten poor people or freeing a slave, and then fasting? Is the expiatory fasting I performed valid and sufficient, or must I now feed ten poor people, knowing that my family is financially well-off and I am a minor and do not know where to find the poor?

If the swearer was below the age of puberty at the time of swearing, then there is nothing upon her. However, if she was an adult, then she has done well by not committing the forbidden act, and expiation is incumbent upon her for breaking the oath; as Al-Mardawi Al-Hanbali said: "And if he swore to do something forbidden or unlawful: it is obligatory for him to break the oath and expiate." The expiation is by feeding ten needy people, or clothing them, or freeing a slave, and it must be from the swearer's own money, not from her father's or mother's money. If she does not possess what she can use to pay the expiation, then she must expiate by fasting.
