The answer

Scholars have differed regarding the permissibility of taking a fee for intercession (bahl al-jah). Some have prohibited it, while others have permitted it. If intercession necessitates expenditure or effort, it is permissible to take the cost of expenses or the equivalent wage for the effort. However, if a person does not possess influence but wishes to present his brother's need to benevolent individuals in exchange for a specific sum upon the fulfillment of the need, this is a legitimate ju'alah (a contract for a reward) and the reward in it is permissible.
