Consoling a Muslim in their affliction is recommended, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever consoles an afflicted person will receive a reward like theirs" (Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi). Consolation is valid in the graveyard, the mosque, or on the road. The fact that a person is an innovator (mubtadi') does not prevent consoling them, because jurists have permitted consoling a disbeliever, and thus a Muslim innovator is even more deserving of it.
