Is it permissible for a man to keep his first wife under his marital bond without her spending the night with him, despite her resentment, on the pretext that she is honored by being spared divorce, even though this causes her psychological harm, and is it permissible for the second wife to accept this situation?

A husband must be just among his wives regarding allocation of time and lodging. A woman may waive her right if she fears divorce and sees a benefit in doing so, for Allah, the Almighty, says: ﴿And if a woman fears from her husband defiance or desertion, there is no sin upon them if they make terms of settlement between them - and settlement is best.﴾ This is also because Sawda (may Allah be pleased with her) waived her day for Aisha. Aisha interpreted the verse as referring to a woman whose husband fears divorcing her, so she tells him: "Keep me and marry someone else, and you are absolved from the expense and the division." If the woman does not agree to waive her right, the husband must be just; otherwise, he should divorce her so she does not remain in suspense.
