Is it permissible to be named "Mai" in Islam, and must the name be changed if it is not permissible?

The name "Mayy" is a well-known name among Arabs, and it is permissible to use it without any need for alteration. It is a female name, and some women from among the Companions and the Tabi'in were named with it, such as: Mayyah bint Muhriz, Mayyah al-Zarqa', and a Tabi'iyah who was a mawlat to Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan.
