Does adultery by a muḥṣan invalidate his correct marriage contract, and what are the implications of that if there are children?

The crime of adultery does not affect the validity of the marriage between the spouses. However, if the wife commits adultery, it becomes forbidden for her husband to approach her until her womb is purified by one menstrual cycle from the person with whom she committed adultery, provided she is not pregnant. The children are attributed to the husband, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The child is for the bed, and for the adulterer is the stone." This is unless the husband disavows the child and performs li'an (mutual imprecation) with its mother, in which case the child is attributed to its mother alone.
