What should a wife do to repent from intentionally aborting two fetuses (each at three months)? And is expiation (kaffarah) required of her?

Abortion is not permissible after the fetus has been formed, unless there is a fear of the mother's demise, based on a reliable medical report, or if the fetus has died inside her womb. A woman who has aborted must repent and pay the blood money (Diyyah), which is one-tenth of the mother's Diyyah, for each fetus. This Diyyah is to be given to the fetus's heirs, and the mother receives nothing from it. Scholars have differed regarding the obligation of expiation (fasting for two consecutive months). Some have deemed it obligatory by analogy to taking a life (Shafi'is and Hanbalis), while others have said it is recommended but not obligatory (Hanafis and Malikis). Fasting is more preferable to avoid disagreement.
