Does the noble hadith: "Gold for gold, silver for silver, wheat for wheat, barley for barley, dates for dates, and salt for salt, like for like, equal for equal, hand to hand, take and give," mean the prohibition of buying these materials with money on deferred installments, such as buying groceries from the grocer and paying for them at the end of the month?

Purchasing goods either in cash or in installments is permissible, even if the deferred price exceeds the immediate price, provided that the installments are known and the term is specified. This is based on the Almighty's saying: {O you who have believed, when you contract a debt for a specified term, write it down} (Quran 2:282), and on the story of Barirah. What is prohibited is selling homogenous commodities at a differential price or on credit.
