What is the ruling on a woman working as a dentist, and is it forbidden for her to treat men?
A woman's work in the field of dentistry is permissible if she is safe from intermingling with non- men and avoids displaying her adornments, based on the Almighty's saying: "And do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former [times of] ignorance." [Al-Ahzab: 33]. And [she must avoid] being soft in speech, based on the Almighty's saying: "Then do not be soft in speech [to men], lest he in whose heart is disease should covet, but speak with appropriate speech." [Al-Ahzab: 32]. As for her treating men, it is not permissible except in cases of dire necessity, such as the absence of a man who can perform that [treatment], as mentioned by Al-Bujairimi in Tuhfat Al-Habib.
