What is the ruling on hating one's wife's family due to their frequent harm?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is more perfect for a believer to respond to evil with good, for in that there are rewards and a transformation of hatred into love. Allah Almighty said: "And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] with that which is better, and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend. But none is granted it except those who are patient, and none is granted it except one having a great portion [of good]." Among the causes of love are spreading greetings and exchanging gifts. If hatred does not turn into affection, then a person is only burdened with what they are capable of, and hatred is an act of the heart which is not within a person's ability to change.
