Is it permissible to evict a brother of bad character from the house while he is living in it?

If the house is owned by the brother alone, he may expel his ill-mannered brother if doing so would deter him. He should clarify that the expulsion is due to his bad behavior and allow him back if he reforms. Scholars have stipulated the permissibility of shunning a disobedient relative if shunning is hoped to reform him.

However, if the house is jointly owned by both of them, he cannot prevent him from residing in his share. Instead, he should advise him and point out his mistakes. If he does not desist and there is a benefit in shunning him, then he should shun him until his condition improves.
